Abortion (GodSpeak Readings Oct 26-31)

Speaking the Truth in Love:  Abortion

We believe that life starts at conception and that life should be valued just as any other.
This is true.  How do we hold that truth and still love the woman who feels there is no other choice, or to the one who made that choice so long ago?

Daily Prayer: Thank you for the gift of life.  Help us to value all life, both those unborn and those who struggle with the issue of abortion.  Amen.

Monday, October 26
Read Psalm 139This psalm is all about being known by God, our creator and protector.  We often use this psalm to speak the truth about the unborn.  How might we use this psalm also to show love for someone considering an abortion?

Tuesday, October 27
Read Jeremiah 1:4-10What was Jeremiah’s concern about being called by God for service as a prophet?  When did God know about this calling?  What does this say about God’s intent for all the unborn?

Wednesday, October 28
Read Luke 1:39-45.  John, even as a fetus, leapt in Elizabeth’s womb at the encounter with Jesus, also a fetus.  What does this say about the biblical viewpoint of the value of a fetus?

Thursday, October 29
Read Luke 7:36-50Women who have had an abortion often carry deep remorse and feel as if they can’t talk about it with others.  How did Jesus treat the woman in this passage?  How can we convey the same kind of lavish forgiveness to others?

Friday, October 30
Read 2 Corinthians 5:16-21Sin has consequences that have a tendency to carry on.  What do these verses tell us about God’s attitude toward us because of Jesus?  If God considers us new creations, how should we treat one another?

Saturday, October 31
Read 1 Timothy 1:12-17Paul himself had grief over his previous choices in life.  How did Paul find comfort?  Do we regard Paul any less for his previous life?  How did God turn his previous life into an opportunity to serve God?  Pray that God would use your poor choices in life to prepare you help others in similar situations.
