Daily Devotional/Group Discussion Questions

Many who don’t believe in Christ as the promised Messiah only think Him to be a second Elijah. See how Jesus is the True Messiah, and the True and Better Elijah.

Daily Prayer: Pray through Psalm 16.

Monday, Aug. 8
Read 1 Kings 17:1-16. Who was Elijah? How was he provided for? How did the Lord use him to provide for those in need?

Tuesday, Aug. 9
Read 1 Kings 17:17-24, John 11:17-44 & 20:1-10. “Jesus wept” is the shortest verse in the Bible, and many think Jesus’ is weeping over Lazarus. That is not the case! Why do you think Jesus weeps? What is found in Christ? How is Jesus the true and better Elijah?

Wednesday, Aug. 10
Read 1 Kings 18:20-40 & John 17. Everything points to One who is greater. How does Elijah point to God? How does Jesus?

Thursday, Aug. 11
Read 1 Kings 19:1-18, Zechariah 4:6-7. Divine silence does not mean divine inactivity. What does God reveal to Elijah? What does God reveal to us? Think about Jesus’ character. How was He a still, small voice?

Friday, Aug. 12
Read Matthew 3; 17:1-13. In Malachi 4:5-6, Malachi prophecies the coming of another Elijah. Some thought that was Jesus, preparing the way for someone greater, but that’s not the case.  Who, then, was the second Elijah? Who does God say to listen to?

Saturday, Aug. 13
Read 2 Kings 2:1-14 and Acts 1:1-11. What are some major similarities between these accounts? Who is left to do the work? What is the work for us?
