GodSpeak – Acts 19 – August 6-11

Acts 19

In our readings this week, the Gospel has such an overwhelming effect on the city of Ephesus that the idol makers bring forth a riot and try to get rid of the Christians.

Monday, August 6     Read Acts 19:1-22. Why does Paul feel it necessary to baptize the believers he finds in Ephesus? What does this tell us about baptism?

Tuesday, August 7     Read Acts 19:23-41. The Gospel had such a transformative effect in Ephesus that those who crafted idols rioted over their loss of business. What would it look like for the Gospel to transform your neighborhood?

Wednesday, August 8     After reviewing Acts 19, Read Luke 3:1-20. What did John the Baptist mean by “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”? What kind of fire is he talking about?

Thursday, August 9     After reviewing Acts 19, Read Exodus 32:1-35. Why is idolatry such a hug problem all throughout the history of creation?

Friday, August 10     After reviewing Acts 19, Read 1 Peter 4:1-19. What does this passage say about suffering for Christ?

Saturday, August 11     After reviewing Acts 19, Read Ephesians 5:1-20. What do you think Paul means by “Be very careful, then, how you live —not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”?
