We know that Scripture is inspired by God and inerrant. We trust the Bible as the foundation for our lives. God guides us as we read scripture and experience that words He has spoken to us.

Read 2 Peter 1:1-4, 19-21 & Psalm 119:105. 1/2 Peter were letters of encouragement written to persecuted Christians. Who was the author? What does he call the “we” in verse 19 to pay attention to? Who was involved in writing scripture? What is the Word compared to, and what does this mean to you?

Read John 1:1-18, 6:63, and Col 3:1-17. When John 1 tells us that the flesh dwelt among us, the greek literally translates to “pitched a tent” here with us. Why is it important to know the context of any scripture passage? How does the image of Jesus pitching a tent change the way you read these passages? How can we live life to the full with scripture guiding us as Jesus did?

Read Proverbs 3:5-6, 30:5-6, Hebrews 4:12, & John 17:6-17. What is the Word of God? How did Jesus view God’s Word? Highlight every descriptive word that you find, and create an “elevator pitch” (a 30 second summary or BOLD statement) of why someone should trust Scripture and read it. Pray that God gives you the opportunity to say that pitch.

Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17. What are different ways that God’s Word guides us? What is the purpose of studying the Bible? Picture someone mature in faith. Why do you picture that person the way you do? What characteristics of that person can we strive for, and how does this passage help that?

Read 2 Timothy 4:1-8. Why is it important to preach the Word of God? How can you do that in your everyday life at work, or at home? What does preaching involve?

Read Psalm 119:97-104. Do you love God’s Word (law)? What happens as we study it more and meditate on it daily? What does the author of this passage mean when he says God’s Word is “sweeter than honey?” If we truly believe it is “sweet”, how can our daily priorities change?
