Joy to the World: Christmas Week

Daily Devotional/Group Discussion Questions

Merry Christmas!!  This week, we remember that Christ stepped into our brokenness. He left perfection to save us from our sin. Praise God for this amazing gift that he gave 2000 years ago and every day through His Spirit.

Daily prayer: Pray Psalm 51:1-2, 7.

Mon. Dec 25

Read Luke 2:1-7. How do you feel Jesus’ love always and everywhere? Today, you may have unwrapped some gifts. How can you keep unwrapping His gift of His presence? Activity: Spend time with your family. If you aren’t with a family today, call a friend and tell them “Merry Christmas” and that they are loved!

Tue. Dec 26

Read Luke 2:8-19. What does it mean that Jesus is the greatest gift? Activity: Write a thank you card for one or multiple of the gifts you received over Christmas. Sign each card, “Jesus loves you, and so do I!”

Wed. Dec 27

Read Matthew 2:1-23. Why was Herod disturbed? Why did the wise men seek the child? What words stand out to you in verse 18? Activity: Find a version of “We Three Kings” that you enjoy, and listen. Bonus points: do a search on the internet to find the significance behind each wise man’s gift!

Thurs. Dec 28

Read Luke 2:1-40. How does Jesus’ light still shine as bright and as real as it did to Simeon and to Anna? We don’t know much about Jesus’ childhood, but vs. 40 gives us what clue? Activity: Read Leviticus 12:1-8. What was the purpose of purification? What has been done for us now so that we don’t have to do this? Think about your baptism. How have you been cleansed?

Fri. Dec 29

Read Isaiah 55:6-13, Hebrews 1:3. As we move away from celebrating Christmas into celebrating the new year, how can you “seek the Lord while He may be found”? What does that mean? Activity: Write one of your favorite moments this year where you saw God at work. Share it with Bethel, and let us know if we can share it publically for you!

Sat. Dec 30

Read Matthew 11:25-30. Who are wonderful things revealed to? How does that make you feel? If an infant can be revealed great and wonderful things, how can you be encouraged by this? Activity: Read Phil. 2:5-11 and pop some popcorn. Each time you hear a kernel pop, think of a blessing from God to you. Consider this as the popping intensifies; you’ll lose count of the popping kernels, just like we lose count of the blessings God has bestowed on us!
