GodSpeak – Colossians 2:6-23 – August 11-16

Reading Paul, Hearing Jesus (GEPC)
Colossians 2:6-23

Paul mixes metaphors right away in verse 6. Walk! Rooted! So, which is it? Both. Jesus sends us on a journey of faith to follow him. Along the way, we must be firmly planted…in him.

Monday, August 11
Read Colossians 2:6-23. In this passage, Paul speaks frequently of being “in” Christ or “in” him. According to Paul, what happens “in” Christ? What doesn’t?

Tuesday, August 12
After reviewing Colossians 2:6-23, read John 13:1-20. After Jesus washes the disciples’ feet, what is his instruction to them? Paul says we walk in Jesus AS we have received him. How have we received him? How were we taught? Who are you serving?

Wednesday, August 13
After reviewing Colossians 2:6-23, read Luke 6:43-49. We are rooted and built up in Christ. Jesus calls upon us to be good trees that bear good fruit. Give examples of Jesus’ good fruit. How can we bear fruit in similar ways? What happens when the storms of life come?

Thursday, August 14
After reviewing Colossians 2:6-23, read Mark 7:1-23. What is the power of philosophy and human tradition in your life? Look at the things you value and the things you do. Ask yourself “Why do I do that? Why do I value that” If you are honest with yourself, you’ll soon get to the heart of it. What do you find there?

Friday, August 15
After reviewing Colossians 2:6-23, read Romans 6:1-14. Jesus died and rose to life. In baptism we die to our old life and rise into a new one. What does Paul say that new life looks like? What makes your new life different than the old one? How does the old life try to return?

Saturday, August 16
After reviewing Colossians 2:6-23, read John 15. Paul likes to talk about Jesus being the Head of the body, which is the church. How does Jesus talk about that topic in John 15? How do you visualize Jesus leading your life? Talk about a time when it was evident Jesus was leading you.
