GodSpeak – Heart of Membership Fellowship: Father – October 27-November 1

Heart of Membership
Fellowship:  Father

Our baptism in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit compels us to live in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as a community of believers.  What does it mean to live in the name of the Father?  How is our fellowship dependent on us living in the name of the Father?
Daily Prayer: Father, teach me to see you as supreme over everything and to depend on you completely.

Monday, October 27
Read Matthew 6The Lord’s Prayer is organized according to the Trinity.  Verses 9-11 are the part of the prayer focused on living in the name of the Father.  What is significant about the fact that the prayer begins with “Our Father” rather than “My Father?”

Tuesday, October 28
Read Matthew 11:25-30, Matthew 18:1-4, Matthew 19:13-15Notice how Jesus speaks about children.  Is he literally talking about young people or is he talking about us all as “children of God?”  If so, what does Jesus say it means to be a “child of God?”

Wednesday, October 29
Read Luke 15:11-32The father plays a prominent role in the parable of the prodigal son.  What qualities of our heavenly Father are displayed by the father in this story?  Which son do you relate to the most?  What is our Father’s disposition toward you?

Thursday, October 20
Read Matthew 23:1-12Why does Jesus want us to refrain from calling people “father?”  Is he talking about our actual earthly fathers too?  If not, then what’s the point?  Why is it so important for us to see each other as “brothers?”

Friday, October 31
Read John 14Let’s mine this passage for an amazing lesson about our Father.  What is the Father’s house?  How do we get there?  Who shows us the Father?  How does the Father love us?  What are the Father’s words?

Saturday, November 1
Read Psalm 103A father supplies good things for his children.  Just look at the many good things the psalm shows us that our Father gives to us.  Now pray and thank God for each one.
