GodSpeak: Life|Love – April 27-May 1

Life|Love
1 John 2:18-27

In this world we find people pro-this and anti-that all the time.  It should not surprise us to find some people pro-christ and others anti-christ.  It may be surprising, however, how attractive the teaching of the anti-christ can be.
Daily Prayer:  Lord, you loved us from the beginning and sent Jesus to redeem us.  Teach us your love so that we may resist the selfish desires of the world.  Amen.

Monday, April 27
Read 1 John 2:18-27. Focus on verses 18-19.  If we are pro-Christ, then who is antichrist?  What might John be talking about when he mentions people who have gone out from them, but were not of them?  For more, see Matthew 24.

Tuesday, April 28
Read 1 John 2:18-27. Focus on verse 20. What does it mean to be “anointed?”  What was the purpose for anointing in ancient Israel?  For more, see 1 Samuel 16:1-13.  Because of this anointing by the Holy One, we have  “knowledge.”  How does such an anointing result in knowledge?

Wednesday, April 29
Read 1 John 2:18-27. Focus on verse 21Paul makes the assumption that the readers of his letter possess this knowledge of the truth.  What do we know?  How would John’s letter be different if they didn’t know the truth?  For more, see Ephesians 4:1-16.

Thursday, April 30
Read 1 John 2:18-27. Focus on verses 22-23. Who is the antichrist?  What should our attitude be toward those who deny Christ?  Anger?  Sadness?  Concern?  Why is it so important to have Father and Son together?  Is there any understanding of one without the other?  For more, see Matthew 11:25-30.

Friday, May 1
Read 1 John 2:18-27. Focus on verses 24-25.  What have we heard “from the beginning” that is to abide  in us? What is the connection to the Son and the Father?   For more, see John 15:1-17.

Saturday, May 2
Read 1 John 2:18-27. Focus on verses 26-27. John says that those who have been anointed do not need further teaching, that the anointing itself teaches us.  What does the anointing of God teach us?  If the anointing does the teaching, then why is John writing the letter?  Who else is out there ready to “teach” us? For more, see 1 John 2:1-17.
