GodSpeak – Matthew 17:1-27 – August 26-31

Disciple (n./v.): The Gospel of Matthew
Matthew 17:1-27

What a series of puzzling events! Jesus outshines Moses and Elijah, the disciples have less than a mustard seed of faith and fishing became a bit more profitable.

Monday, August 26
Read Matthew 17:1-13. Who was Moses? Why was he important to the people? Who was Elijah? Why was he important? Who’s important now? Who says so?

Tuesday, August 27
Read Matthew 17:14-27. What’s the difference between having little faith and great faith? Since we are “sons” of the Kingdom, from what are we “exempt?”

Wednesday, August 28
After reviewing Matthew 17, read Hebrews 3. According to Hebrews, who was Moses? What lesson is learned from the experience of the Exodus?

Thursday, August 29
After reviewing Matthew 17, read 1 Corinthians 2. It is tempting to give an ear to modern wisdom, just as the disciples listened to Moses and Elijah. Who do we listen to? What does he tell us?

Friday, August 30
After reviewing Matthew 17, read Mark 9:14-29. Ponder the significance of these two phrases. “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” “This kind can come out only by prayer.”

Saturday, August 31
After reviewing Matthew 17, read Matthew 12:1-14. “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” How does this phrase help us to understand what to do with the “temple tax” problem?
