GodSpeak – Matthew 28:16-20 – Dec 30-Jan 4

Disciple (n./v.): The Gospel of Matthew
Matthew 28:16-20

It took a full year, but here we are where we started, at the Great Commission. Reflect this week on how God has discipled you this year. What did he teach you? How have you changed?

Monday, December 30
Read Matthew 28:16-20. Take time today to pray over each of the parts of the Great Commission: 1) God authorizes us. 2) We are disciples who make disciples. 3) We baptize in the Triune name of God. 4) We teach others Jesus’ commands. 5) He is with us.

Tuesday, December 31
After reviewing Matthew 28:16-20, read Matthew 9:1-8, 10:1-15. We know Jesus has authority to forgive sins. What about us? Do we believe God has given us that kind authority? See Matt. 18:18.

Wednesday, January 1
After reviewing Matthew 28:16-20, read Matthew 4:18-22, 16:24-28. When we follow Jesus, we imitate him. How do we “fish for men?” How did Jesus do it? Can we do it without a “cross?”

Thursday, January 2
After reviewing Matthew 28:16-20, read Matthew 3. Why is Jesus baptized? He doesn’t need it, but we do. When we follow Jesus into baptism what happens to us? Why is that so important?

Friday, January 3
After reviewing Matthew 28:16-20, read Matthew 5:1-16, 23:8-12. The Beatitudes are a summary of Jesus’ teaching. They build on each other. What characteristic from the Beatitudes do you struggle with? Which one is your strength? Who is our teacher?

Saturday, January 4
After reviewing Matthew 28:16-20, read Matthew 10:40-42, 18:18-20. Since Jesus isn’t with us bodily, how is Jesus with us? How do we share Jesus with others? Why is it important for us to see ourselves as a conduit for Jesus to reach others?
