GodSpeak – John 11 – Dec. 19-24

The Gospel of John 11

Jesus is the creator God walking around in a world full of death. He is the inventor of life and can bring new life where he pleases. He allows Lazarus to die, weeps at his grave and then raises him to life. Unbelievable… or is it?

Weekly Memory Verse: John 11:25
“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Monday, December 19     Read John 11:1-37. Jesus is very confusing. Knowing of Lazarus’ sickness, he remains where he was for 2 more days allowing Lazarus to die before even departing. He’s even glad he wasn’t there. Why? Try explaining that to Mary and Martha!

Tuesday, December 20     Read John 11:38-57. We have reached a major turning point in John. As you read, do you feel the dramatic turn from Lazarus’ resurrection to the plot to take Jesus’ life?

Wednesday, December 21     After reviewing John 11, read Daniel 12:1-4 & Ezekiel 37:1-14. The hope for a resurrection at the end was a great comfort for the people of God. Did Martha believe Jesus could resurrect her brother? (vs. 22-24) Does she really hear what Jesus is saying?

Thursday, December 22     After reviewing John 11, read Luke 19:28-44. “Jesus wept.” Why? Is he grieving the man he’s about to resurrect? Or is he sad the truth is still “hidden from their eyes”?

Friday, December 23     After reviewing John 11, read John 5:19-30. Jesus talks about resurrection in John 5. What’s the difference between Lazarus’ resurrection and the one in John 5?

Saturday, December 24     After reviewing John 11, read Acts 3. Again, the people of Jerusalem respond to a miraculous healing. Peter’s words were stinging, yet true. He also speaks of a resurrection hope (v.21). How do we respond to these miraculous healings?
