GodSpeak – John 14 – January 9-14

The Gospel of John 14

After predicting one disciple’s betrayal, another disciple’s denial and his own imminent departure, the disciples are understandably troubled. While it seems like everything is coming apart at the seams, Jesus has them right where he wants them… on the way.

Weekly Memory Verse: John 14:6
“I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Monday, January 9     Read John 14:1-14. The disciples misunderstand Jesus when he tells them he is the way, the truth and the life. Ponder the difference between Jesus’ understanding of way truth and life and the disciples’. Who do we resemble in our understanding?

Tuesday, January 10     Read John 14:15-31. What do we learn about the Holy Spirit from this passage? How does the Holy Spirit participate in giving us peace, or shalom?

Wednesday, January 11     After reviewing John 14, read Hebrews 10:11-24. According to Hebrews 10 and John 9, what is the way to communion with God? Does these verses leave open the possibility of another way?

Thursday, January 12     After reviewing John 14, read 1 John 2:21-29. How do we see the Father? If we don’t believe Jesus is the Christ, do we really have God? See 2 John 1:9.

Friday, January 13      After reviewing John 14, read Psalm 51. The Greek word for “Counselor” implies helping out someone who is in trouble with the law. How is that consistent Psalm 51?

Saturday, January 14     After reviewing John 14, read Jeremiah 8:1-15 & Psalm 85. What kind of peace does the world give? What kind of peace does God give? How can we tell the difference?
