GodSpeak – John 6:25-70 – Nov. 14-19

The Gospel of John 6:25-70

As if it wasn’t enough to see 5 loaves and 2 fish feed thousands of people, now Jesus is using that experience to talk about who he is and what he has come to do. Things get a little offensive as Jesus’ example turns gruesome. Is Jesus being offensive or honest… or both?

 Weekly Memory Verse: John 6:35
“I am the bread of life. He who comes tome will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.”

Monday, November 14    Read John 6:25-59. How is the bread Jesus talks about here different than the bread they had just miraculously eaten? How do we “eat” this “bread”?

Tuesday, November 15     Read John 6:60-70. Offended, the disciples choose to stay with Jesus. Why? Is this by their own power? How do we come to Jesus?

Wednesday, November 16     After reviewing John 6:25-70, read Exodus 16. God fed his people who were starving in the desert. How is Jesus like manna? How is he better?

Thursday, November 17      After reviewing John 6:25-70, read Deuteronomy 8. Jesus = bread of life. Jesus = Word (Jn. 1). Reread Dt. 8:3. What do you think Jesus means when he tells us to eat his flesh and drink his blood?

Friday, November 18     After reviewing John 6:25-70, read 1 Corinthians 10:14-22 & 11:17-34. While Jesus is not directly talking to the crowd about the Lord’s Supper in John 6, could he be saying something to us?

Saturday, November 19     After reviewing John 6:25-70, read 1 Corinthians 1:18-31. It take some serious pride to be offended by God. Yet Jesus’ teaching still offends today. Why haven’t you left? Does Peter speak for you too?
