At Bethel, we’re doing more than just Confirmation…we’re taking all of our youth on The Journey!
The problem is troubling…most kids are stopping their active faith shortly after Confirmation Sunday. The problem is long-standing…this is a trend that’s been going on since the 1960’s. The problem has resulted…in a world today, where at least 1/3 of adults don’t identify with Christian faith.
This fall, Bethel will start doing something about these troubling trends.
We’re calling it The Journey – an active, real-world applied, God’s Word and Confessional-grounded approach to youth ministry and faith development.
The Journey begins in a youth’s 7th grade year. As “Journeymen,” they will learn and the basics of key parts of our faith and apply them to their daily lives.
In their 8th grade year, “Explorers” will deepen and build upon their basic faith, upon which they will affirm their baptisms on Confirmation Sunday.
But, then The Journey continues.
In high school, Bethel youth mature to our “john1516een” part of The Journey. Grounded in Jesus’ declaration – “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last,” Bethel’s high school youth will: a) engage with today’s social issues from a solid biblical foundation; b) dream, plan and bring to fruition life-changing work in Christ’s name in the community; c) continue growing in and being shaped by their Christian faith, as they prepare for the next chapter in their journey (e.g., college, military, work, etc.)
The Journey will be fun, to be sure. Yet, it will constantly challenge Bethel’s youth to deepen, engage with…and, appreciate the faith the Lord has gifted them!
To learn more about The Journey and what it can mean for your middle or high school youth, please join Pastor Prin and Anna for an Embarkation Evening on Wednesday, September 27 at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall.
