Read Genesis 14:17-20 & Hebrews 7:1-2. Who was this Melchizedek (we’ll call him Mel for short)?

Read Hebrews 5:1-4 & 9:1-10. The Latin word for “priest” means “bridge-builder.” An Old Testament priest would be like our modern day counselors, self-help gurus, consultants, plus pastor. Who were these special people?
Wednesday, June 22
Read Hebrews 7:1-10. Mel is a mystery in the Bible. The law, as you’ve seen in previous readings (and can see in Exodus 28:1-4 & 32:26-29), states that priests would come from the line of Levi, Abraham’s grandson (“still in his loins”). This shows that the order of Mel was much greater than that of Abraham. What are some oddities that the author of Hebrews points out?
