Praying for and Acting with Boldness – Acts 4

A few weeks ago WaterLife was introduced at Bethel. One of the goals of WaterLife is to highlight what God is doing through His people who are a part of Bethel Lutheran. These are stories of people who acted boldly to share the love and truth we know in Christ.

One of the marks of Jesus’ disciples in the Book of Acts is boldness. I found 8 references in Acts that describe the boldness of the disciples in witnessing to the Gospel of Jesus. In fact, Acts 4 is an account of Peter and John speaking before the Sanhedrin, the Jewish ruling council, and confessing to them that “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given men by which we must be saved.” Even after Peter and John tell them that they “cannot help speaking about what [they] had seen and heard” the Sanhedrin threatens them, but lets them go. They return to the believers and join in prayer. They prayed, “Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to  speak your word with great boldness.”

When was the last time you prayed to God for boldness? I know many disciples who aren’t lacking in love for Jesus or others, knowledge of Scripture or opportunities to share. What we really lack is boldness. Be Bold! Make new friends. Look for opportunities to speak the Gospel into the lives of those God has placed around you.

Lord, Grant your people boldness in loving others and sharing your truth with them. Give me your eyes to see the opportunities you lay before me. In Jesus Name, Amen.
