Tabernacle Prayer Pt. 1

Daily Devotional/Group Discussion Questions

As you can read in the Old Testament, the Tabernacle was the dwelling place of God where He met His people. A person would walk through seven stations in the tabernacle. These next two weeks, we will be walking through them. Why? These same stations can help guide us in prayer today.

Daily Prayer: Father, we praise you for all that you are and all that you’ve done. Cleanse us of our sins, and use us to proclaim your glory and love. Amen.

Prayer Exercise 1: Write out your prayer plan for the week. Read Mark 1:35  if you need a refresher on how Jesus encouraged us to do this.

The Outer Court – Read Psalm 100:4. When we enter fellowship and prayer, what is the first thing we should do? List out ways you can thank and praise God.

The Brazen Altar – Read Psalm 103:2-5 & Hebrews 9:12. In the Old Testament, people brought animal sacrifices to the brazen altar in the tabernacle when they committed a sin. What does Hebrews say is our sacrifice now? In order to enter the Holy of Holies, what altar was Jesus sacrificed on?

The Laver – Read Romans 12:1-2, Philippians 4:8, and Galatians 5:22-23. Next in the tabernacle was a bowl of water where people could wash. When praying, check your heart. Surrender your sins and guilt to God. Offer your tongue, eyes, ears, hands, feet, and mind to God.

Prayer Exercise 2: These first stations focus on spiritual cleansing. Sometimes we get distracted, and are even unaware of what’s happening in our own hearts. Read Psalm 139:23-24 and ask God to search your heart for sin, selfishness, stress, and sickness. Remember, it is through Jesus’ sacrifice that we are made clean.
