It was already a meal with powerful symbolical significance. Nobody would ever think of “improving” upon the Passover observance, that is, except Jesus. When Jesus broke the bread and said “this is my body” and raised the cup of redemption and said, “this is my blood” everything changed. Listen to how through this meal we have unity, forgiveness and remembrance.
