The Lord’s Prayer

Daily Devotional/Group Discussion Questions

When asked how we should pray, Jesus gave us this holy and simple example. As you work through the Lord’s prayer this week, may you be reminded of Jesus’ work and love in your life.

Daily Prayer: Our Father, who dwells in heaven, holy is your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, here on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily needs, and forgive us of our sins as we forgive others who sin against us. Steer us away from temptation, and deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom, power, and glory forever. Amen.

First Prayer Exercise: Write out your prayer plan for the week. Read Mark 1:35  if you need a refresher on how Jesus encouraged us to do this.

Read Luke 12:31. What does this Luke verse say about praying for the Will of God to happen?

Read Psalm 121:1-2. Let’s think about “daily bread.” Where does your help ultimately come from? What is on your mind now that you think you can control, but need to give to God to take care of?

Read Ephesians 6:10-20.  What does this verse say about spiritual warfare? About the war against the flesh? What does it mean to struggle in these ways? Use this verse as an opportunity to confess your sins to God.

Prayer Exercise 2: Read John 2:1-14. Find parallels between this passage and the Lord’s prayer. Sketch or write down parts of this passage that struck you. Let God speak to you through His Word. Pray through this passage. For example, “Lord, help me to walk in the light…” “Father, I confess these sins to you…” and “Thank you Lord, that Your Word is in us.”

Prayer Exercise 3: The last part of the Lord’s prayer was added later. “For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever, amen.” End your prayer time by reminding yourself of God’s ability; return to praise! Pray these parts of prayer and make them personal by asking yourself of each, “What does this mean to me?: “Yours is the kingdom.” “Yours is the Power.” “Yours is the Glory.”
