Walking through Prayer

Daily Devotional/Group Discussion Questions

Prayer intimidates some people. Sometimes we just don’t know what to pray, or how to pray! This week, fill in your prayers in this prayer outline.

Daily Prayer: Each morning, tell God what you have planned for the day. Each night, tell God how your day went; list what you’re thankful for, what you would like to confess, prayer requests, and praises for God each day. Then speak each word and have a conversation with your heavenly Father.

Prayer Exercise 1: Write out your prayer plan for the week. Read Mark 1:35  if you need a refresher on how Jesus encouraged us to do this.

Thanksgiving – Read Psalm 100 and 118. What do we have to be thankful to God for? What does the Psalmist say that God has done for him? What has God done for you?

Confession/Cleansing – Read Prov. 4:23 and Psalm 139:23-24. What do we need to guard our hearts from? What are some temptations that you find yourself struggling with? God knows our hearts and loves us all the same. What sins are blocking you from experiencing that love? Confess them and talk through them with God. Remember: no sin is too great. Christ died and rose for you.

Intercession (Prayer Requests) – Read Psalm 131:1-3, 25:4-5. Our requests are never too great for our God: Read Job 38 and see all the wondrous things God does. What encouragement do these readings give you? Do we have reason to worry about anything in life?

Prayer Exercise 2 – Read Psalm 25:4-5. Pray this Bible passage, list out any prayer requests you may have, then read and pray the passage again.

Praise – Read Psalm 98, and Colossians 3:16. Have you ever heard the song “if you’re happy and you know it”? It talks about clapping our hands and shouting “Amen” when we’re joyful! Even on the worst of days, God gives us something to praise Him for. What do you have to be joyful about?

Prayer Exercise 3: What’s your favorite hymn or Christian song? Find the lyrics to it. Now, create a prayer using that song. Start by thanking God, then confessing to Him your short-comings, followed by talking about your prayer requests with Him, and finish by praising Him with the song you’ve chosen.
