That’s the way I remember which way to turn my clock with Daylight Saving Time. March 9 is coming and we’ll “spring forward” an hour, have breakfast in the dark, and enjoy a bit more sunlight later in the day. But perhaps this is a chance for us to think of areas where we can “spring forward” in our Christian walk with Jesus.
Personal Ministry
Over the last few months I’ve witnessed the power of personal ministry performed by a number of members of our church. These people “spring forward” and do what is necessary to advance the good news of Jesus. Some cook, some clean, some write, some speak, some drive, some pray, but I see how God blesses us all when we each “spring forward” in the ministry God has given to us.
Liberian Ministry
Lusienie Fofana is certainly “springing forward” in his ministry here at Bethel. I would like to thank the congregation for their unanimous support of Fofana and his ministry among us to the Liberians in our community. Preparations are being made to begin a Liberian Worship Service some time after Easter. Plans are to begin the service at 11:30am, understanding that it takes about an hour for Africans to all arrive. Their worship will likely last a total of 2 hours. This timing allows for the Liberians to send their children to Sunday School if they wish and even to participate with any pot-lucks or meals that we may have after Sunday School. Please continue to pray for this ministry and also for your involvement in this ministry.
Music Ministry
Once again, I will be “springing forward” to direct our Festival Choir, slated to begin rehearsals on March 4 and sing on Easter Sunday. As you know, music is a great love of mine and I am always looking for opportunities to encourage future church musicians. Such an opportunity has come again. The Lutheran High School of Indianapolis Choir is coming to Bethel for a concert on Friday, March 14th at 7pm. They will bring with them all the exuberance and energy of a high school choir singing praises to God. I invite you to attend this concert, bring a friend, and also to consider housing one or more students for the night. The choir is 40 strong with 5 chaperones. This will require a number of people coming forward to house the students. Sign-up for housing students will be in the narthex for the next few Sundays leading up to the concert.
Bethel: Spring Forward
God has put a new spring in the step of our congregation! People are being reached with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. People are being connected with other Christians and friendships are developing. People are finding their ministry voice and are using it to God’s glory! I praise God every day for you and for the work of God that I see in you. Brothers and sisters in Christ, it’s more than the clocks springing forward in March! May God be praised!
Pastor Seabaugh
16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
