Bask in the Glow (GodSpeak Readings Dec 21-26)

Christmas Lights: Bask in the Glow

In the midst of the craziness of the cultural celebration of Christmas, take this week to bask in the glow of what God has done for us by coming to save us.  Take it all in and let it shine!

Daily Prayer: Thank you for coming to save us.  Shine through me as we celebrate!  Amen.

Monday, December 21
Read Psalm 46No doubt, we live in a crazy mixed up world.  It seems to be getting worse rather than better.  In the midst of the craziness we have Christmas.  Be still.  Take a deep breath and let it sink in that God really came down here to save us.  Pray for that reality to guide your thoughts and actions this week.

Tuesday, December 22
Read John 1:1-18Our worlds are so small.  Take a cosmic perspective of what happened when God entered the earth as a human.  Read the passage slowly, meditating on each verse.  What does it mean to you that Jesus would shine his light in this dark world?  Into your life?

Wednesday, December 23
Read Revelation 22John (the one who wrote yesterday’s passage) is being given a tour of the new earth.  He writes to us using symbols to describe the splendor.  What does it mean when he says that “night will be no more?”  Where does the “light” come from?  Let that soak in.

Thursday, December 24
Read Luke 1:26-56An angel tells Mary that she is pregnant with the “Son of the Most High.”  After an eventful visit with Elizabeth, Mary basks in the glow of what God is doing through her.  Put yourself in her place as you read her words.  God has enlightened us through Jesus and given us forgiveness through his grace.  What words would you use to “magnify the Lord?”

Friday, December 25
Read Luke 2:1-20Mary took a moment to bask in the glow of this newborn child.  Take a moment today to praise God for bringing his light into the world in this baby.  Thank him for the sacrifice that would save you and the new life we have through his resurrection.  Celebrate!

Saturday, December 26
Read Matthew 2:1-12The Magi had come many long miles following the light of a star to worship the newborn king of Israel.  Why do you think it was so important to them to make such a trip?  What are we willing to endure for the chance to worship Jesus?
