Daily Devotional/Group Discussion Questions
By praying, we put trust in God, not ourselves, and power is taken away from the Enemy to tempt us and discourage us. Each day, clothe yourself with the armor of God through prayer.
Daily Prayer: Each morning, read Ephesians 6:11-18, praying through the verses asking God to be your strength and comfort.
Prayer Exercise 1: Write out your prayer plan for the week. Read Mark 1:35 if you need a refresher on how Jesus encouraged us to do this.
Prayer Exercise 2: Read Ephesians 6:15 and Matthew 7:24-27. Roman soldier shoes (called caligae) were designed to prevent blisters and foot disease, and had spikes on the bottom for easier travel. They had a firm footing! Draw a pair of these types of shoes set on a rock. In the rock, list ways that the Gospel is your firm footing, then pray asking God to continue strengthening that firm foundation.
Shoes… – Read Matthew 24:36-25:30. Why are shoes used to describe readiness? What do we need to be ready for? Why do we need to be ready now?
…fitted with readiness…– Read Luke 14:15-24. Define readiness. What excuses do we make to not be ready or not to prepare? Who does the kingdom of God belong to?
…given by Gospel of Peace. – Read John 16:25-33. What message are we ready to share? What promises does Jesus give? What peace and hope does this give you?
Prayer Exercise 3 – Strap on your firmest shoes and go on a prayer walk! You can use the outline we have used in previous weeks (thanksgiving, confession, prayer request, praise), or simply have a conversation with God as the Spirit leads. Prayer for the houses you walk by and for your neighbors.
