He Chose the Nails: “He Chose to Forgive Us” · based on Max Lucado’s Bible Study
Nails fix what was once broken. They join together that which was separated. This week, see how the nails of the cross did exactly that for you.
This 6-week study will work like this: each day, there will be daily readings (instructions below) for you to work through personally and reflect upon with your family/small group, labeled “Personal Lenten Practice”. There are also additional exercises for you to work through with your small group, labeled “Going Deep”. If you do not have a small group that you meet in, please contact the office so that we can help you find one. 651-300-2642
Going Deep Small Group Exercises
Read: Romans 5:10 & Colossians 2:12-14. (Try reading it in the MSG version of the Bible).
Ask: Who are we? What sin is unforgiveable? Who or what is it that has brought you to life; reconciled us? How, and when? Why is the “when” important?
Read: Colossians 1:20-23 (Try reading it in the MSG version of the Bible).
Ask: God sent His son to leave home in order to bring us home. What is reconciliation? Who is the gift of reconciliation for? Who are God’s enemies? What is it like to consider yourself a once enemy of God? How do we stand now, after the cross?
Read: John 10:18
Ask: Who really killed Jesus? Why is this so significant?
Personal Lenten Practice
Each day this week, set 15-20 minutes aside to read the scriptures below (taken from the Book of Common Prayer Daily Office). As you read, reflect on the questions below. Ask the Lord to speak to you through these readings. Find one word in the readings each day that connects your reading to your daily life. Use a journal to record your word and why you think the Lord revealed that word to you that day. End your time in prayer.
Questions: How can I make peace with God? How has He already made peace with me?
