1 John 5:13-21
John finishes his letter with a word of encouragement to be bold in the faith, to look out for each other and to live the faith given to us through Jesus.
Daily Prayer: Thank you for giving us the knowledge of eternal life. Lead us to live with boldness, willing to sacrifice all to love others the way you love us. Amen.
Monday, June 8
Read 1 John 5:13-21. Focus on verse 13. Why is John writing this letter? Why is it so important for them to know that they have eternal life? What happens when we doubt that fact? For more, see John 20:31.
Tuesday, June 9
Read 1 John 5:13-21. Focus on verses 14-15. What is it about eternal life that gives us confidence or boldness? What kinds of requests are according to God’s will? How do we know the difference between our will and God’s will? What do you ask for? For more on boldness, see Acts 4:1-31
Wednesday, June 10
Read 1 John 5:13-21. Focus on verses 16-17. What is the difference between a sin that leads to death and one that doesn’t lead to death? What should we pray for? In order to understand this, see verses 13-15 and connect “death” to “life” and “prayer” with “asking.”
Thursday, June 11
Read 1 John 5:13-21. Focus on verse 18. Who is John referring to the second time he mentions the one “born of God?” If that’s Jesus, what’s the significance that we are both “born of God?” How are we like Jesus? For more, see John 1:9-13.
Friday, June 12
Read 1 John 5:13-21. Focus on verse 19. Do you ever feel intimidated that “the whole world lies in the power of the evil one?” America is no longer a Christian country. Describe the importance of knowing we are from God in modern day America. For more, see 1 Timothy 3.
Saturday, June 13
