GodSpeak Life|Love – May 11-16

1 John 3:11-24

Love is one of the most confusing words in the English language.  Is it emotion?  Is it attraction?  Is it lust?  Is it appetizing?  Is it enjoyment?  What is it?  John will help us straighten it out.

Daily Prayer: Jesus, teach me to love like you did.  Amen.

Monday, May 11
Read 1 John 3:11-24.  Focus on verses 11-12.  Read Genesis 4:1-16 and retell in your own words the story of Cain and Abel.  Why was Cain so angry at Abel?  When do we share a similar kind of anger?

Tuesday, May 12
Read 1 John 3:11-24.  Focus on verses 13-15. Why would the world hate people who love and want what is best for each other?  When did we pass from death to life?  For more, see Ephesians 5:1-21.

Wednesday, May 13
Read 1 John 3:11-24.  Focus on verse 16What kind of love do we show to others?  What is our greatest example of love?  Give an example of a time when you or someone close to you sacrificed greatly for the sake of another.  For more, see John 15:1-17

Thursday, May 14
Read 1 John 3:11-24.  Focus on verses 17-18.  How do these two verse help us to define “love?”  How is the definition of love here different than that of popular culture?  How is it the same?  For more, see James 2:14-18.

Friday, May 15
Read 1 John 3:11-24.  Focus on verses 19-22Why would our hearts condemn us?  How would we come to a place where our hearts wouldn’t condemn us?  If we do what pleases God, what do we ask him for?  Do we get it?  For more, see Matthew 7:7-11.

Saturday, May 16
Read 1 John 3:11-24.  Focus on verses 23-24What are the two things that Jesus commands us?  Is it enough to “just” believe and not love others?  What is this Spirit he has given us?  For more, see Matthew 22:34-40.
