The King of Love My Shepherd Is
Monday, November 12 “The King of love my shepherd is”
Read Psalm 23. This entire hymn is based upon Psalm 23. You’ll find references to the Psalm in every verse. Why do you think this Psalm has become such a favorite? What does it mean to you?
Tuesday, November 13 “And, where the verdant pastures grow, With food celestial feedeth.”
Read Ezekiel 34. Ezekiel prophesied against the “shepherds” of Israel, then speaks about how God will seek out his sheep. Are you a sheep? How has God found you? What “celestial food” does he feed us?
Wednesday, November 14 “Perverse and foolish oft I strayed”
Read Matthew 18. Singing the words “perverse” and “oft” together makes this verse hit hard. What does Jesus say about our perversions? What is his response to our sin? What does Jesus want us to do when others sin against us?
Thursday, November 15 “In deaths dark vale I fear no ill”
Read Psalm 27. Ever feel surrounded by the dark things of this world? It is very natural to fear in those times. What are we really afraid of? How is Psalm 27 a comfort in those times?
Friday, November 16 “Thine unction grace bestoweth”
Read Luke 19:1-10. Unction is another word for anointing. The phrase speaks of how we are anointed with God’s grace and delightfully changed. How was Jesus showing grace to Zacchaeus? How was he delightfully changed? How are you delightfully changed by your unction of grace?
Saturday, November 17 “Good Shepherd, may I sing Thy Praise Within Thy house forever!”
Read John 10. Compare this passage with the Ezekiel 34 passage you read on Tuesday. How is Jesus our Good Shepherd? “Forever” is a long time. How can we make such a bold statement about how our Good Shepherd will take care of us?

LSB 709 The King of Love My Shepherd Is
The King of love my shepherd is,
Whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am His
And He is mine forever.
Where streams of living water flow,
My ransomed soul He leadeth
And, where the verdant pastures grow,
With food celestial feedeth.
Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
But yet in love He sought me
And on His shoulder gently laid
And home rejoicing brought me.
In death’s dark vale I fear no ill
With Thee, dear Lord, beside me,
Thy rod and staff my comfort still,
Thy cross before to guide me.
Thou spreadst a table in my sight;
Thine unction grace bestoweth;
And, oh, what transport of delight
From Thy pure chalice floweth!
And so through all the length of days
Thy goodness faileth never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing Thy praise
Within Thy house forever!
