Monday, August 29
Read Malachi 3:1 & Luke 1:1-25, 57-80. Who was John the Baptist? What were the circumstances of his birth?
Tuesday, August 30
Read Numbers 6:1-21, Matthew 3:1-12, & Mark 1:1-8. John took an ancient oath of the Nazarite, who’s purpose was to prepare the way for the Lord. What were some of the requirements of a Nazarite? How did John prepare the way?
Wednesday, August 31
Read John 1:1-28. John’s purpose was to prepare the way for Jesus. Some say that He may have been Jesus’ Rabbi. A Rabbi’s disciple would follow the Rabbi, saying and doing everything of the Rabbi. John says that Jesus is the one that “comes after me”. What ways does John prepare the way for his disciple, Jesus? What does John mean when he says Jesus came before him?
Thursday, September 1
Read Matthew 3:13-17 & Mark 1:4, 7-11. John hesitates to baptize Jesus. Why? How does this show Jesus as True and Better?
Friday, Sept 2
Read Matthew 3:7-12 & 11:2-19. John prepared the way for the kingdom, and Jesus came with the power of it. What is the difference in strategies between the Rabbi, John the Baptist, and his disciple (now Teacher or Rabbi) Jesus? How does Jesus show Himself as true and better?
Saturday, Sept 3
