Sermon: "Slaves of Righteousness"

Readings: Psalm 119:129-136, Romans 6:12-23, John 8:31-36

Freedom.  Is it all it’s cracked up to be?  Yes and no.  It depends upon what you are being freed from!  Paul uses some familiar examples to illustrate how we are united with Christ through our baptisms and how all believers have been brought from being slaves of sin to slaves of righeousness.

  1. My conclusion is that if as true followers of our Lord Jesus Christ we consider ourselves to be great servants of righteousness, then we are not slaves. And If it is true that we are very faithful slaves then we cant be great. We are simply what the Bible says we are …unworthy servants doing just what our Master says we must do.

    • Very well put! We’re not to consider ourselves “great.” As unworthy servants of God, we are made “great” in His eyes through Jesus’ sacrifice. Service follows naturally as we respond to the love of Christ for us and the assurance of eternal life. Now that’s great!
