Daily Devotional/Group Discussion Questions

Through the account of Noah and the Flood, we have an Image of true, everlasting, perfect rest that could come through a new and greater Noah, who has a new and better ark of rescue, and who still uses water to kill but also to make alive, to drown but to resurrect.

Daily Prayer: Pray through Psalm 5.

Monday, June 6
Read Genesis 3:15, 5:29, & 6:1-8. Noah means “rest” or “relief.” Lamech thought his son was the fulfillment to the promise of 3:15. After reading 6:5-7, why was “relief” needed? Who would bring “rest” permanently?

Tuesday, June 7
Read Genesis 6:13-22, Psalm 119:89-94; Matthew 8:23-27. Draw a picture of the ark as described. Lake people of Minnesota, what key parts are missing from this boat? How, then, is it steered? In this instance, how is Jesus true and better?

Wednesday, June 8
Read Genesis 7 & Ephesians 1:13-14. God called and sealed Noah and his family into the ark. What body does God call and seal us and our families into today? How do we help others into that body?

Thursday, June 9
Skim Gen 1-2:3; Read John 19:20 & 20:1-16. 8 people were on the ark, and the number 8 has significance in the Bible. Each day of creation has a morning and an evening except the last day when God rests: No close to seventh day of first creation because it was waiting to be closed by the Messiah. When did Jesus close the last day? When did He open the 8th day?

Friday, June 10
Read 1 Peter 3:18-22 & Romans 6:3-6. How is the number 8 significant in the flood account? What sacrament is connected with the ark? Hint: The Baptism Font has 8 sides… In what way is the water of Baptism both death and life? How is this like the flood?

Saturday, June 11
Read 1 Corinthians 5:17 & 2 Corinthians 5:21. The number 8, if you haven’t guessed it yet, is the number of new creation. How is Jesus the true and better Noah? What has He made new & clean?
