Could it be that the endeavor started two years ago to read through the Bible is coming to a close in a few short months? When we started reading the Bible, and realized that it would take two years, it seemed like it would take forever. As it turns out, the only thing that was forever was the impact it had on our congregation as we read through the entire Bible, many of us, for the first time. So, here it comes. The last day of our GodSpeak readings will be on Wednesday, September14, 2011 when we will read Revelation 22, the last chapter in the Bible.
To You, Through You
From the very beginning GodSpeak has been about hearing God speak to us as we read and listen to His word and then gain the confidence to have the word of God spoken through us in our daily lives. I can tell that reading the Bible together has changed us. We’re more attentive to His voice and ask our difficult questions more readily. The conversations with one another are often centered on what we all read that week from the Bible. You wear your GodSpeak buttons proudly, just waiting for someone to ask you what it’s all about. God is speaking through you!
GodSpoke?
So, on September 15th all of that will come to an end. No longer will God speak to us and through us. We’ll refer to it as “GodSpoke.” Ha! Never! God’s word doesn’t just follow 2-year plans, and neither do we! The discipline of a daily Bible reading, groups to discuss the reading and Sunday morning gathered around that word has been transformational for our congregation. So we want to keep it going. No, we’re not starting again with Genesis for another 2-year read-through. We’re going to focus on certain books and topics in our daily readings. Surely as you have read through certain books you felt the need to slow down. Here’s your chance. Let us know which books you would like to focus on and we’ll do it together as a congregation.
GodSpeak 2?
I’m not a big fan of sequels. GodSpeak 2 doesn’t do anything for me. I’m not sure what we’ll call it, but we need to stay in the word of God as a congregation. As we slow things down and look closer at these books of the Bible, it will give us the opportunity to see how the Bible interprets itself. It will allow us to ask deeper questions and to find the answers in God’s word. Hopefully God will speak to you in a new and powerful way, and you will be confident to speak of the grace of God you have experienced reading His word.
